A non-exhaustive list of organizations related to biology education who offer conferences and seminars that may be of interest to ABLE members
- ACUBE (Association of College and University Biology Educators): ACUBE holds an annual meeting for biology educators.
- The AIBS (American Institute of Biological Sciences) maintains a list of member organizations conferences and meetings at http://www.aibs.org/events/meetings_and_conferences.html.
- ASCB (American Society for Cell Biology): This organization’s regional meetings and webinars are perfect for a teaching-intensive audience interested in cell biology.
- CUR (Council on Undergraduate Research): CUR Dialogues offer great opportunities for research mentors to grow and learn. The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), held each spring, is also hosted by CUR and is an ideal place for your students to present their biological research.
- HAPS (Human Anatomy and Physiology Society): The HAPS annual conferences are held each may. HAPS conferences provide lots of great general teaching tips that any biology teacher can use, not just Anatomy & Physiology teachers. In essence a HAPS conference is a multidisciplinary teaching conference. For more information go to: www.hapsweb.org.
- NABT (National Association of Biology Teachers): NABT holds their Professional Development Conferences each November somewhere in the United States.
- NSTA (National Science Teaching Association): NSTA hosts national conferences each spring and fall in addition to a STEM Forum & Expo over the summer and several web seminar opportunities.
- Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) is the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U’s) center of STEM higher education reform dedicated to empowering STEM faculty, including those from underrepresented groups, to graduate more students in STEM fields who are competitively trained and liberally educated. Their website lists a variety of meetings and workshops.
- SABER (Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research): SABER is a scientific community whose members develop theory and generate evidence with the goals of improving post-secondary biology education. SABER fosters discipline-based education research in biology and its dissemination. The SABER Annual Meetings are held each summer while regional meetings and webinars are offered during other times of the year.
