Association for Biology Laboratory Education

Major Workshop Application

Application deadline: 31 October

The completed application consists of:

  1. The online application form (will be linked here soon)
  2. A single PDF or MS Word document (8 MB limit) that includes:
    • Workshop title and name(s) of presenters
    • Abstract describing the proposed workshop (300 words maximum)
    • Student laboratory handout (what students in the class would be given)
    • A list of equipment and supplies needed for a class of 25 students
    • Notes for the Instructor on how the experiment works
    • Sample results
    • A description of how you will present the laboratory to conference participants
    • Student/TA evaluations of this exercise as a learning experience (optional)

We encourage you to prepare your written materials in the general format required for publication in Advances in Biology Laboratory Education (the ABLE conference proceedings). See the author template here.

Keep in mind that your audience is your fellow faculty and teaching staff. All components of the proposal, with the exception of the Student Handout, are specifically for your peers.  Conference vendors may participate in the presentation of a Major Workshop only if they are partnered with a faculty or staff from an academic institution who is teaching the exercise to students and who is the primary author and presenter of the workshop.

When you successfully submit your application, you will receive a confirmation. The Major Workshop committee will contact you via email with their decision.
