ABLE Mourns a Loss

Dr. Bob Hodson, host of the ABLE 2009 annual conference at the University of Delaware, June 2009

It is with much sadness that we report Dr. Bob Hodson, a friend, colleague, and dedicated ABLE advocate, passed away from pancreatic cancer on April 24, 2015.

Bob took up with ABLE late in his career and quickly became fully invested in its mission.  He looked forward to each annual meeting, served as Secretary for over ten years, and even hosted the 2009 ABLE meeting in Delaware.  He was always generous with encouragement and praise for his colleagues.   Many described him as "a mentor" and "an inspiration."  He lead by example by creating innovative experiences for his students.  These often employed technology in creative and sophisticated ways.  Despite having no formal education with servers and intranets, Bob learned what technology he needed with persistence and patience.

He taught thousands of students during his tenure at the University of Delaware.  He participated in student groups, the University Senate, and honors societies.  He was devoted to his wife, Anita, and proudly spoke of the accomplishments made by his two children, Elke and Timothy.

His passing saddens us, and he will be sorely missed. You can view his obituary online at http://tinyurl.com/Bob-Hodson.
