If you are like me, a current ABLE member who is convinced that this organization is a great way to learn about new ways to teach biology, then you also may have experienced the following:  I am talking to an invited seminar speaker who is visiting for our weekly departmental seminar, explaining my work and I mention ABLE….and they ask “What is ABLE?”  You are presenting a poster at a scientific meetings and explaining to visitors how they may learn more about the new teaching materials described in the poster, or guided inquiry laboratory methods, or a new model organism, or a wonderful new experiment you just learned about at the 2010 ABLE conference, and you say, “You should come to the next ABLE meeting!” and they respond “What is ABLE?”  Of course, I can and do tell them about ABLE but I always want to hand them a reminder that they could consult long after we had talked.  Well, our days of wistful wishing are over!

The first-ever ABLE postcard (below) has been produced and is ready for distribution.  Mark Walvoord, Dan Johnson and I designed and printed a handy calling card for ABLE that you may take and distribute to those who need to know, anyone who is not currently an ABLE member.  Packets of cards will be given to ABLE members who wish to distribute them at other meetings and events.  I will bring a supply of cards to the 2011 Conference and requests for packets may be made to me prior to that time.  Let’s get the word out!

Larry Blumer, President Elect and Major Workshop co-chair.
