Fran Kennedy
Candidate for the Position of Treasurer

Present Academic Position

Assistant Professor of Biology

Academic Background

I received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Botany from the University of Connecticut and my PhD from the University of Arizona, Tuscon. At that time my husband was on active duty in the Air Force. While overseas, I taught a course in ecology for the University of Maryland, European campus. When we returned to the US I taught part-time at the University of South Carolina, Sumter for several years. We moved to Atlanta, Georgia and I worked at Emory University as a research associate in the Department of Biochemistry and then in the Department of Physiology.

I taught at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia for five years in a non-tenure track position prior to moving to the State University of West Georgia.

ABLE Service/Activity

While at Agnes Scott College, I heard about ABLE. My first meeting attended was at Wyoming. Judy Morgan asked me to be on the local committee when she hosted the meeting at Emory. I have wanted to become more involved in the organization for some time and decided that now would be a good time to run for office.

Personal Statement

The ABLE meetings have been extremely helpful for me personally from the standpoint of a participant and also to make some good friendships with people of like interests across the country and in Canada. I would like to make a contribution to the organization as well. It would be a privilege to serve as an officer.
