Here at UNL, football fever has finally subsided (it never ceases), and I find myself already a month into the new semester. Somehow in this time period I have managed to participate in the writing of an NSF grant, writing lectures for a new course, and revising a series of lab exercises for our majors biology course. One day before I retire, I will learn not take on so many projects! Therefore I am only going to provide a brief update to ABLE business that has been completed or are works in progress.
  • Sue Karcher and Anna Wilson, Purdue University, are nearly finished planning the 2006 ABLE conference to be held at Purdue, June 6 - 10. It promises to be an outstanding conference so please make plans to attend.
  • Mike O'Donnell, Trinity College, is well on the way to converting the Proceedings to digital format (CD) so that we can all go home after the Purdue meetings with a great deal less weight in our luggage.
  • Sarah Deel, Carlton College, is now in possession of Proceedings Volumes 1- 4 and should have the scanning done in the near future so that these lab exercises can be placed on the ABLE web site. If anyone would like to volunteer to convert Volumes 9 -10 into electronic format, please let me know. Although electronic files for these volumes are available, they are not easily (if at all) convertible and therefore these volumes may also have to be scanned.
  • Carol Budd, St. Lawrence University, has completed her survey of the last three years of major workshop presenters for opinions about the honorarium. She is now compiling the data.
  • Maggie Haag, University of Alberta, has been busily accepting new memberships and compiling the 2006 ABLE Directory.

The above are only a few of the ongoing projects currently being undertaken by ABLE members. You will all be informed as the outcomes of these and other projects at the Purdue conference. I would like to call on all of you to spread the word about ABLE - recruit, recruit, recruit. I want to see a larger number than normal participants at the Purdue meeting and a huge increase in our 2005-2006 membership. Our best advertising is by word-of -mouth to our colleagues in the U.S. and Canada as to the incredible value of belonging to ABLE and the worth of attending ABLE conferences. I hope to see you all at Purdue this summer.

Bill Glider
ABLE President
