Invitation to the University of Deleware

campus

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware invites you to the 2009 ABLE meetings, to be held from June 9 to 13, 2009 on the Newark, Delaware campus. This annual conference will offer major and mini-workshops on innovative laboratory and classroom activities, as well as field trips to nearby natural attractions, including Stroud Water Research Center, Mount Cuba Center (a horticultural center for Piedmont flora), the New Jersey Pine Barrens, and Longwood Gardens, a world-renowned botanical garden. Have you always wanted to canoe through a pine forest, or tag a horseshoe crab? You may have an opportunity to do so in the Pine Barrens or at  Pickering Beach during a Saturday conference excursion. Would you like to be wired to equipment to analyze your walking, or would you like to make a podcast of conference activities? You can learn about both by joining a campus tour of UD’s Physical Therapy clinic as well as the multi-media center in Morris Library.

The University of Delaware’s brand new dormitory facilities and a campus Marriott Hotel offer excellent accommodations, there are ample laboratories and meeting rooms available for workshops, and there is a campus outdoor pool and exercise facility accessible for recreational purposes. Airports are reasonably close, and Newark is easily reached by car along the north-east corridor. Pedestrians will enjoy roaming the streets of this small college town which is integrated with the campus. Anyone interested in the 2009 ABLE conference should examine our developing website at www.udel.edu/conf/able  Questions can be directed to Professors Robert Hodson (hodson@udel.edu), Robert Ketcham (rketcham@udel.edu) and Linda Dion (ldion@udel.edu). We look forward to your attendance in June.
