Instructor, Biological and Physical Sciences

Position Summary Instructional faculty has the important responsibility of creating an innovative learning environment both inside and outside the classroom to inspire success and excellence in student learning. Instructional faculty members are also expected to adhere to professional standards and ethics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach various science courses which may include general chemistry, microbiology, and general biology courses and associated laboratories.
  2. Provide an outcomes-based and interdisciplinary focused curriculum.
  3. Be student focused .
  4. Participate in student recruitment and community outreach efforts.
  5. Use innovative pedagogies and emerging technology to enhance learning.
  6. Promote a collaborative learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom.
  7. Keep current on degree requirements in order to advise students majoring in any science or STEM program, nursing and health science programs, as well as general studies programs.
  8. Assist in department and program budget development and compliance, including maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.
  9. Actively participate in annual and five year academic program reviews.
  10. Assess and revise curriculum offerings which includes all curricular forms, including course syllabus, in consultation with the science department and the Dean as necessary.
  11. Share student information with other faculty and counselors when deemed appropriate, including progress reports, attendance records, etc.
  12. Participates in college and university articulation conferences as required and attends department and division meetings
  13. Works with CWC BOCHES and high school science instructors to offer concurrent and/or dual credit courses within the CWC service area
  14. Post and maintain office hours.
  15. Represents division on college committees as required.
  16. Operate within the framework established by CWC\’s policies, procedures, and practices.
  17. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  •  Master\’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or other related disciplines from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.
Experience
  •  Successful teaching experience, preferably at a community college.
Licenses/Certifications
  •  Driver\’s license
Equivalency Statement
  •  Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
