ABLE Has Grants!
ABLE is pleased to award two types of grants each year. Read on to learn more. If you have any questions about applying for either one, contact your friendly fourth-year member-at-large -- in this case, Mariëlle Hoefnagels (hoefnagels@ou.edu).
The first type of grant is the Charlie Drewes Waiver of Registration Grant.
- What’s it for? To provide financial assistance to people who could not otherwise attend an ABLE conference.
- Who is eligible to apply? Graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, new academic faculty and staff, and faculty and staff from community colleges.
- How much money are we talking about? One conference registration waiver, which in 2011 amounted to $150-$300 (depending on membership status).
- How can you apply? You can find an online application form here: http://www.ableweb.org/conf/waiver.htm
- When is it due? The first Monday in March, every year.
- When will you know if you got it? You will be notified by early April, so you’ll have plenty of time to register and choose your conference workshops.
The second type of grant is the Roberta Williams Laboratory Teaching Initiative Grant.
- What’s it for? To help fund the development of investigative laboratory activities.
- Who is eligible to apply? Faculty, staff, and graduate students who are affiliated with a 2- or 4-year post-secondary institution and who are currently teaching an undergraduate-level life science course. Grant recipients must be able to attend an ABLE conference within the next two years to present the project as an ABLE workshop. Applicants need not be current ABLE members.
- How much money are we talking about? Up to $2000.
- How can you apply? You can find an online application form here: http://www.ableweb.org/grants/teaching-initiatives.htm
- When is it due? The first Monday in May, every year.
- When will you know if you got it? Recipients will be selected and notified by mid-July.
