If so, then Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Kalamazoo, MI) may have the ideal opportunity for you. Kalamazoo Valley is seeking an experienced Biology/Sustainable Horticulture instructor to fill a full-time, tenure-track position. Individuals should be familiar with a variety of instructional strategies and have an understanding of the community college philosophy. In addition, candidates should possess experience with curriculum development and a willingness to collaborate across divisions.
Applications are invited from interested candidates who value and engage in high-quality, student-centered instruction. Duties will include lecture and laboratory teaching of biology courses including nonmajors intro biology, ecology/field research; teaching a variety of courses in sustainable horticulture; assisting in developing curriculum; leading program maintenance/growth for sustainable horticulture; and participating in and leading departmental and college activities that support initiatives related to enrollment management, retention, student engagement, and student success. Teaching assignments include a variety of day and evening courses. The position also includes opportunities for curriculum development, educational assessments, retention, enrollment management, student engagement, student success, and professional growth and enrichment. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to embrace teamwork as they develop or redesign courses to meet student, transfer and workforce needs. Course focus on non-majors biology, ecology, and horticulture to support AS, AA, and AAS programs
This position is slated to begin Fall 2023 and is contingent upon final Board approval and funding.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Biology or related discipline or subfield is required.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience in a horticulture or related field is required.
Or
- Master’s degree in another field AND 18 graduate credits in pure/applied Biology is required.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience in a horticulture or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Prior post-secondary/community college teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with community college students, faculty, staff and community preferred.
- Experience with curriculum and/or program development preferred.
- Experience with non-credit and community education.
- Experience with teaching biology and horticulture.
