Assistant Professor of Biology/Environmental Science

Belmont University

The Environmental Science Program in the Biology Department at Belmont University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2024. 

Candidates are invited to submit applications to join the Biology Department, a collaborative group of faculty who serve a diverse population of undergraduate science majors. Our faculty provides high quality learning experiences in a small class environment and engages undergraduates in various scientific research experiences.

Job Description & Qualifications

Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in our interdisciplinary Environmental Science program. This position will teach introductory Environmental Science courses, courses within the general education curriculum, and may teach upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that support and complement current offerings in Environmental Science and Biology. Full-time teaching load is 24 hours per academic year. As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program. 

The successful candidate will also develop a robust undergraduate research program that complements and expands current research offerings. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and departmental, college, and university service.

A Ph.D. in environmental science, biology, or related field, or progress toward a terminal degree, is required; teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience in GIS and data science are desired.

We welcome candidates with expertise in wildlife diseases, sustainability, climate change, green infrastructure, natural resource management, or other areas within the field of Environmental Science.
