FACULTY POSITION in Biological Sciences

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) is seeking a teaching-track faculty of Biological Sciences at the assistant teaching professor level. The expected starting date is August 1st, 2024 with the expectation to spend part of the first semester time on the main campus in Pittsburgh, USA, to work with CMU Biology faculty to become familiar with the CMU lab curriculum. A reasonable teaching load allows time for quality teaching, research, and close involvement with students, faculty, and the local educational community. The responsibilities are primarily related to teaching the Genetics and Molecular Biology labs and lecture courses, with an expectation of engagement in curriculum development, service-related activities, and research, principally with undergraduate students in the Biological Sciences Program. We are interested in finding a candidate who is collegial, collaborative, and would feel comfortable sharing roles and responsibilities with the other biology faculty. Strong collaboration with, and support from, faculty teaching similar courses on the main campus in Pittsburgh is expected.

While this is an entry-level position, Carnegie Mellon University offers teaching appointments with multi-year contracts and promotion opportunities. The position offers a competitive salary, travel, housing allowances, parental leave, and other benefit packages, which may include attractive research and professional development support.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is a branch campus that operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City are a broad mix of nationalities but primarily come from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the campus and additional faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Information Systems.
