Laboratory Preparation Technologist

Position Summary
The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics is seeking a part-time Laboratory Preparation Technologist that will provide bacterial cultures and supplies for the teaching laboratory. This position maintains basic laboratory equipment and assists professors in the preparation of demonstration experiments including maintaining organisms and preparing microscopic slides for classes and perfecting new class experiments. The technologist will set up and dismantle the teaching laboratory each semester. Other duties include supervising student employees by training and monitoring their work to ensure proper sterilization of glassware and media as well as overseeing their daily tasks; checking and maintaining inventory; organizing and cleaning cupboards and drawers each semester; and other duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology or Microbiology; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in microbiology, chemistry and aseptic techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Basic lab experience using bacterial cultures and microbiological techniques is desired.
