Introductory Biology Lab Coordinator – Lecturer

The Department of Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science (BGE) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) College of Arts and Sciences seeks applications for an Introductory Biology Lab Coordinator position beginning August 1, 2026.

Qualifications
We invite applications for a non-tenure track faculty Introductory Biology Lab Coordinator position at the Lecturer level. Candidates must hold an M.S. and/or Ph.D. in Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. Teaching experience is strongly preferred. Responsibilities include teaching multiple sections of various undergraduate laboratory courses in introductory biology, developing and updating curriculum for the laboratory courses, coordinating and co-supervising Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), serving on appropriate departmental committees, and participating in departmental faculty meetings. The courses the applicant would be expected to teach and manage include but are not limited to Principles of Biology I Laboratory and Principles of Biology II Laboratory. Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction, and in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC’s Strategic Plan.

Requirements for the position include:

  • M.S. and/or Ph.D. in Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate biology laboratory courses
  • Ability to coordinate and teach multiple sections of assigned laboratory courses
  • Supervisory and/or mentoring experience (e.g., managing GTAs, lab staff, or student workers)
  • Experience in development of new laboratory content and/or improving pedagogy to support student success
  • Demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Potential to work collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty and staff within the department, college, and university
  • Ability to utilize high impact practices in teaching and student engagement per UTC’s Strategic Plan
