Description

The Department of Biology at Lafayette College invites applications for a Laboratory Coordinator position beginning fall 2026.

The candidate will work closely with the department’s other Laboratory Coordinator, and assume responsibility for the lab component of its two-semester introductory General Biology course, primarily focusing on Biology 111. Assisted by undergraduate teaching assistants, the Laboratory Coordinator teaches up to six three-hour lab sections per semester for both Biology 111 (typically in the fall) and Biology 112 (typically in the spring); this individual will work with faculty and the other Laboratory Coordinator in developing the lab curriculum, prepare and conduct experiments, hire, train and supervise TAs, grade tests, tabulate lab grades, and order supplies. While Biology 112 is being taught, the individual assists with the preparation of supplies required for the SEA-PHAGES components of the lab. This individual will also be responsible for curriculum development of Biology 111, including developing and maintaining a lab manual. Dependent upon the number of lab sections being taught in a given semester, other related duties may be assigned by the department head. Qualifications

We seek applicants who are broadly trained in biology, including laboratory techniques, and have a demonstrable commitment to undergraduate education. Applicants must have a M.S. (or higher) degree in biology or a related field. Teaching experience beyond graduate school teaching assistantships is preferred. Experience teaching undergraduates is a plus.
