Basic Statement of Responsibilities
The teacher is responsible for teaching students through formal and informal classroom and/or laboratory/clinic activities in an atmosphere compatible with the philosophies, goals and objectives of the college. This job description is an addendum to the Faculty Job Description.

Faculty will be responsible for teaching lecture and laboratory sections of two of the following: microbiology, general biology, human anatomy and physiology, botany, forest ecology, and cell biology. Early college courses, etc. may be required to complete faculty load assignments. Faculty member will also be responsible for maintaining viable stock cultures, assisting with budgeting, purchasing of supplies and equipment, preparation for and maintenance of laboratories, and inventory control.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in a biological science and 2 years of higher education teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate Degree in Biology or related field.
  • Prior use of online course management systems (ex- Blackboard, Brightspace, etc.) · Skill in utilizing technology in teaching in the classroom
  • Experience in curriculum development
Organizational Relationships
  • The Biology Faculty member reports directly and is responsible to the Chair of the Science Division
  • This position does not supervise any other positions.
  • This position interacts closely with all of the members of the Science Department, Student Service areas at the College, students.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Accept responsibilities and obligations as a professional educator. The primary duty of faculty is the instruction of assigned classes. This duty must take precedence over all others.
  • Teach a minimum load of 30 credits per academic year with the exception of designated release and/or reassignment time as defined by the faculty release and reassignment policy.
  • Need to work off-schedule hours, when necessary, for the benefit of their department: i.e., evening and/or weekend hours instructing classes, travel between campus locations, and recruitment opportunities such as Open House.
  • As a learner centered college, faculty are expected to be accessible to students in a variety of days, times, and modalities consistent with student needs. Faculty will maintain published office hours for a minimum of 3 hours over multiple days consistent with course modalities and campus location or instructional site. Office hours may be virtual as designated times each week. The schedule must be published in the Learning Management System.
  • Maintaining viable stock cultures, assisting with budgeting, purchasing of supplies and equipment, preparation for and maintenance of laboratories, and inventory control.
  • Attend fall and spring commencement/graduation.
  • Attend division meetings and serve on division/program committee(s).
  • Assist in the development of division/program long range plans and goals.
  • Assume some division/program administrative responsibilities if delegated.
  • Communicate ideas for improving the division/program and assist in accreditation as needed.
  • Serve as requested, on the division/program’s Advisory Committee or other college committees.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.
Secondary Responsibilites  
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess effective leadership, interpersonal communication and team building skills. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications and experience with or ability to use learning management systems is also required. Ability to work collaboratively with others, set up and tear down labs and teach face to face, online and hybrid courses.
Working Conditions
Part of the job is sedentary. Periods of light to medium work may be required during lecture and lab. Travel may be required to other campuses, educational sites, off campus meetings, and training workshops and seminars.
Physical Effort Required
Lab work may involve performing physical tasks requiring physical energy. Perform fine movements and be able to manipulate instruments and lab equipment. Occasional Lifting of 25lbs, for lab equipment etc.
