Greetings from the Editor of Labstracts. Well, we finally made it online and this is the first edition of Labstracts to be be formatted in this way. Many thanks to Corey Goldman, ABLE's webmaster, for taking the HTML text that I sent him and re-formatting it into the new text and graphics layout presented in this issue. Also, thanks to Dasha Pohoral of Mixed Metaphor Design, Toronto, who designed the graphics and page layout. As I reported in the Fall 1999 issue, Labstracts will now be available online and will be restricted to current ABLE members. Each time you access the website and link to Labstracts you will be asked to enter a username and a password. The password will change each year and you will be notified in advance when ABLE memberships are renewed. Since we are now online and capable of taking advantage of this new format, I would request that each person who submits an article for inclusion in Labstracts provide a scanned photo of yourself to go along with the article. In this way, members will recognize the person who writes the article and this may help in meeting people at the annual conference. In time photos will be placed next to all members of the Board so they are more "visibility" to the membership. Below, I will repeat the information pertaining to article submissions that was published in the Fall 1999 issue. In the future, I expect to be able to publish an online form that will make the submission of information much easier. Until then, the format indicated below should suffice. For those of you who are new to ABLE, Labstracts is the ABLE newsletter which contributes to communications among members between annual conference/workshops. In addition to business information (minutes, nominations, information, call for workshops, etc.), Labstracts is a forum whereby members can submit items for publication. These include useful informational articles, reviews, notice of conferences, workshops, evaluations, updates on activities, original ideas, opinions, and any other information that might be of interest to other members. Articles of interest and book and lab reviews are most welcome. As well, there is always room for new additions to the Regional Reporters group who collect and submit news from their regions. If you have access to a computer, please type your information in WordPerfect format (versions 5.1 to 8.0), Microsoft Word or in ASCII (text format) and send it on a 3.5" floppy disk (IBM format). If you do not have access to a computer, please send (mail or FAX to Attention: Ed Andrews) the typed or printed draft and I will re-type and format for the Website. I can also accept information submitted via e-mail or as attachments to e-mail. However, some types of e-mail files and their attachments can cause read/format difficulties and may be automatically encrypted and unreadable. I can read and work with e-mail generated from EUDORA, PEGASUS or Outlook Express. If you can create the file as an HTML formatted document, that would make things a little easier for myself and Corey Goldman, who will be converting the files and posting Labstracts on the ABLE website. The deadline for the Fall 2000 issue is normally September 1. Please check Calendar of Events for other deadlines. If you have any questions, need additional information, or wish to provide input into the newsletter, please contact me via e-mail or write to the address below. Edward Andrews
