Membership Renewal
Nancy Rosenbaum, Membership Committee Chair

If your Fall Labstracts mailing label (upper right corner) says "6/99" your membership in ABLE has expired.  Your support of biology laboratory education is important, so please renew today!  You can use the form on the ABLE website (http://www.zoo.utoronto.ca/able/member/form.htm) to renew.

Unless you renew your membership, you will not have access to Labstracts online, nor receive the latest volume of Tested Studies for Laboratory Teaching, nor prior registration for the ABLE 2000 Conference at Clemson University Clemson, South Carolina, USA.

If you wish to renew your membership or if you are considering joining ABLE, please complete and mail the Membership Application Renewal Form at the ABLE website.

Retired Members
Comments from Lucy Dyer, retired

ABLE is such a wonderful organization!  I have retired from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada (over a year now!), and I am now involved as a volunteer with developing a new hands-on Science Center here in Fredericton (and too many other things too!).  I will still lurk on the lists to get ideas for new exhibits, but have decided regretfully that I should let my membership in ABLE lapse as I move on.  But I still think it is the very best and most helpful group I have ever found for teaching biology, and I will recommend it to anyone.  Have a great year!

Member's Comments
Magali Disdier, Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics

In writing to Nancy Rosenbaum on membership status, Magali Disdier states: "I have to add that the techniques in your [proceedings] books are WONDERFUL.  I am setting up labs for five different classes at college level and these techniques are a life saver for me. Thank you!".

Thank You
Ed Andrews, Editor of Labstracts

I would thank the ABLE Board and all ABLE members who have contributed articles, information and interesting notes to the last three years of the paper-published editions of Labstracts.  I sincerely hope that once the online version is tried and tested that ABLE members will continue to support the newsletter.

I would also thank three people who who have helped ensure that each edition of Labstracts made it to publication and mailing.  I refer to Pam Parsons, our Duplicating Equipment Operator, who always managed to copy the 550 or so copies of Labstracts in record time and on demand; Pauline Hayes, our Mail and Resource Center Clerk, who managed to process all editions through the postage meter and ensured they got to the post office on time; and Amanda Park, my student research assistant, who took time from her "other related duties" to stuff and seal all 550 envelopes in preparation for mailing.
