Using Crustaceans to Illustrate the Principles of Osmoregulation, Acid/Base Balance, and Respiratory Physiology

Tested Studies in Laboratory Teaching, 1986, Volume 7

Abstract

Although intended for third or fourth year students in physiology, the exercises are adaptable to first or second year zoology and biology courses. Blood and tissue samples are easy to obtain without sacrificing the animal and the placement of electrodes for chronic recording of gill bailer and heart beats is relatively easy.

Keywords:  crustaceans, osmoregulation, respiratory physiology, acid/base balance
