Abstract

Through a series of three field trips along with corresponding classroom sessions, students are introduced to basic methods of understanding plant ecology. Field trip locations include Pacific Spirit Park and Lighthouse Park, which have primarily temperate rainforest ecology and Richmond Nature Park which has bog/bog-forest ecology. Students learn how to observe, describe, identify and measure plant life, and they also learn how to measure and relate abiotic variables to dominant vegetation patterns. Marked assignments include field notes and plant collections.
