After lunch at White Labs, the tour will continue to two other local breweries in the “Beer-a-mar” area (named because of the number of breweries near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar). Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

Coast to Desert Ecological Transect of San Diego County

This one long day will highlight the ecological diversity of San Diego County. Beginning with a short bus ride to the beach participants will be outfitted with all the equipment needed to snorkel with leopard sharks, sting rays, and other wildlife of the Coastal kelp forest and Sandy beach habitats. We’ll head east from the beach going to lunch and hiking opportunities in our Chaparral and Riparian habitats at Mission Trails Regional Park. From there we’ll drive up into the Laguna mountains for views of our Oak grassland, and Montane pine forest habitats. We’ll have opportunities for short walks and a view from the mountains, looking down on Anza Borrego Desert State Park, 3,500 feet below. We’ll end the day up at 4,200 feet at the Julian Beer Co before returning to UC San Diego.

You’ll get a survey of the greatest habitat diversity found in one county and see first hand why San Diego has more threatened and endangered animals and plants than any other county in the United States.
