Travel from the Airport

San Diego International Airport (airport code SAN) is served by all major US airlines and some international airlines, including Air Canada. The airport is 15.2 miles from UC San Diego and is a 20 to 25-minute drive in light to moderate traffic. Taxi service between the airport and campus runs about $53 each way. Uber and Lyft are abundantly available and run about $30 to $55 each way. Public transport is the cheapest option and the trolley comes directly to campus.

Car Rental

The airport Consolidated Rental Car Center has vehicles available for rent from all major rental car companies.

  • San Diego International Airport (SAN), 3225 N Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA  92101

Taxi/Uber/Lyft

UC San Diego is a large campus, so you will need to specify where you want to be dropped off:

  • Tata Hall (conference headquarters): Request drop off at Parking Lot #101 (search “UCSD P101” in google maps)
  • On-Campus Housing: Request drop off at the Muir College dorms at the intersection of Scholars Drive South and Scholars Lane.

Public Transport

Shuttle to Old Town Transit Center, or bus to Santa Fe Depot. Then blue line trolley to campus.

  • Take the San Diego Flyer, free airport shuttle, to the Old Town Transit Center.
  • Or, use bus Route 992 to Santa Fe Depot.
  • Take the Blue Line Trolley to UC San Diego Central Campus stop.

The diagram below shows the airport to trolley options. The map to the right shows the extensive MTS trolley system that has stops at the UC San Diego campus.

To pay for the MTS fare, you need to use the PRONTO card or mobile app. Trolley fares can also be purchased at any trolley station using a ticket machine.

Parking

Parking anywhere on the UCSD campus requires a parking permit.  The closest parking to the conference site will be in the underground Scholars Parking Structure (click Parking on the interactive map left-hand menu, Parking Structure, Scholars Parking north or south entrance).

  • Preferred Method: Purchase a daily ($8/day) or weekly ($35/week) parking permit.  Download the ParkMobile App, look for a conference visitor  space in a campus lot (available in Scholars Parking Structure or use the app to locate other spaces), follow the prompts in the ParkMobile App, and enter zone number 47800.  Conference visitor permits are valid in spots marked yellow “S” or green “B.”  You cannot park in the red “A” spots.
  • Pay by the hour ($3/hr).
